More details about your hair loss

As usual, hair loss begins slowly then intensifies. This type of hair loss may partly or spread all over the head. It is normal to lose 100 strands of whole body hair per day. On average, there are 100,000 hair strands on the head. Of course this amount depends on the size of the head and genetic as well. Most of this hair loss is belong to the head. It means 0.01 % of body hair is fall out per day. If you lose more than this amount, means you get infected to hair loss.

The reasons of hair loss :

Hair loss can be occurred mildly or completely causes to baldness. Body hair loss occurred for several reasons:
a. Telogen effluvium This type of hair loss sometimes occurs after a sudden hormone change, especially for women who are in postpartum period. In this hair loss type, an average amount of hair from all parts of the head is been fallen and the patient may see the hair when showering or after waking up. In this case, the space between hairs is increases but rarely causes alopecia areata (spot baldness).
Side effects of medication:
Hair loss can be the side effect of some drugs such as lithium, beta-blockers, warfarin, heparin, amphetamines and levodopa. In addition, many medications used in cancer chemotherapy like adriamycin usually causes hair loss in all over the head.
Symptoms of the hair loss disease:
Hair loss can be the one of diseases symptom like systemic lupus erythematosus (lupus), syphilis, thyroid disorders (such as Hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism), sex hormone imbalance, or serious nutritional problems especially protein, iron, zinc or biotin deficiency. These deficiencies are more common in people who take heavy diet or women suffer heavy menstrual period.
b. Tinea capitis (ringworm or Fungal infection of the scalp) This type of hair loss occurs when the head area get infected by a kind of fungus. This infection causes the hair decomposed on the scalp and creating the scalp or scab. Note: Scalp Fungus is the most common partly hair loss and Tinea capitis in children.
c. Patchy hair loss (alopecia areata) Alopecia areata is an autoimmune disease which causes hair loss in one or more small area on the head. The reason of this disease is unknown, although it is more common among people who suffer another autoimmune disease. When such a trend causes to lose all skull and facial hair, it called Alopecia totalis (AT).
d. Traumatic alopecia This type of hair loss is occurred due to overusing the cosmetic techniques. Using tight hair rubber, exposing the hair at extreme heat or damaging the hair by strong chemical substances like hair dye and permanent curly and smoothing hair products lead to this alopecia. Note: furthermore, the uncommon mental disorder disease called Trichotillomania causes hair loss, as well. In this case, the person urges to pull out or twisting her/his own hair.

Symptoms of the hair loss :

Hair loss can be occurred suddenly or gradually. Sometimes, hair loss is not just related to the hair but the other parts of the body. Some types of alopecia are temporary and some are permanent. The most important symptoms and signs include:
a. Gradual thinning of the vertex (crown) area’s hair It is the most common type of hair loss that happens for women and men of any age. By beginning this signs in men, the hairline gradually moves backward and forms an “M” shape. But in women the hairline does not lost, only the hair density will reduced in vertex (crown) area.
b. Circular or bald spots Some people experience coin-sized bald spots. This type of hair loss usually affects the scalp, but it sometimes also occurs in beards or eyebrows. In some cases, your skin may become itchy or painful before the hair falls out.
c. Sudden loosening of hair A physical or emotional shock can cause hair to loosen. When combing or washing your hair or even after gentle tugging, handfuls of hair may come out. This type of hair loss usually causes overall hair thinning and not bald patches.
d. Full-body hair loss Some diseases and medical treatments, such as chemotherapy for cancer, may result in the loss of hair all over your body. The hair usually grows again after this condition.
e. Patches of scaling that spread over the scalp This is a sign of Tinea capitis (ringworm) and may appear with broken hair, redness, swelling and, at times, oozing or flowing.
Note: When hair loss is due to Telogen effluvium or drugs side effect, it usually occurs in all over the head area. While in fungal baldness (Tinea capitis) and Patchy hair loss (alopecia areata), hair loss occurs in small parts. In Tinea capitis, there are more symptoms such as patches of scaling or areal falling of decomposition hair similar to black points, as well. In alopecia after impact, the area of hair loss depends on the way the hair is damaged. Male-pattern hair loss, hairline usually moves backward and upper area of the head goes bald. Gradually vertex area goes completely bald, and hairline will be close to the vertex (crown) area.
Hair loss period
Duration of hair loss depends on its cause. For example in Telogen effluvium, the hair loss usually occurs after few weeks and few months, and then regrows again.
When hair loss is caused by drug’s side effect, after stopping the meditations the hair will return to the normal condition. If hairdressing causes hair loss, when there is no longer hair damage, hair will grow again.
Note: In fungal infection, hair loss is continued between 6 to 12 weeks and after fungal treatment, hair grows back.
Preventing from hair loss
Some types of hair loss can be minimized by reducing stress, consuming healthy diet and nutrition, and using the reasonable techniques for hairdressing.
One preventing way is changing the using meditations to those do not cause hair loss. For preventing hair loss you can keep clean the skin of the head to avoid fungal infection.
Note: Sometimes you can prevent from genetic hair loss and baldness by using the medicine.
Hair loss treatment
a. Limit the exposing at damaging or chemical substances such as hair dryer, hair straightener and hair dye
b. Using healthy diet and background diseases treatment
c. Taking medicines such as terbinafine or itraconazole or shampoos containing or ketoconazole
d. Patchy hair loss (alopecia areata) can be treated by taking topical corticosteroid or injecting into the skin.
Note: The other treatments for this condition include anthralin cream, minoxidil and or a combination of these treatments. Unfortunately, there is not treatment for most people who suffer genetic hair loss.
Note: Sometimes, the physicians prescribe topical minoxidil (Rogaine), or oral finasteride (just for men) for these people. Hair transplant is the other treatment options for them.
